Start by considering your outdoor space dimensions, how you plan to use the patio, and any existing landscaping features. We recommend sketching a basic layout and thinking about traffic flow, furniture placement, and sun exposure throughout the day.
The shape depends on your yard layout, home architecture, and personal preference. Rectangular patios work well for most homes, while curved designs create a more organic feel. We can help you choose the best shape during your consultation.
Look for contractors with proven experience, positive reviews, proper licensing and insurance, and a portfolio of completed projects. Ask for references and get detailed written estimates before making your decision.
Yes, you will need a sub-base for your patio to ensure stability and longevity, but it's not the same as concrete used for the house foundation. It's recommended to use MOT Type 1, a material made of aggregates crushed from 40mm to dust (may include gravel, crushed stone, sand, recycled concrete, etc). Laying your hardscape pavers on top of a well-prepared sub-base helps prevent shifting, settling, and cracking your patio surface over time.
Regular maintenance includes sweeping debris, cleaning with mild soap and water, resealing pavers every 2-3 years, addressing any weed growth promptly, and checking for any loose or damaged pavers that need replacement.
